What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers can be a game-changer for those who have always wanted a smile transformation. These meticulously crafted casings, with a thickness similar to that of a contact lens, are designed to correct imperfections on the front surface of the teeth such as discoloration, chipping, gaps, misalignment, and unevenly sized or disproportional teeth. Veneers are a convenient, lasting, and minimally invasive solution to unsightly teeth — to help you achieve that winning smile you deserve!

What are the potential benefits of having dental veneers?

A great smile can have a positive impact on our personal and professional life. But not everyone is born with great-looking teeth, and the usual wear-and-tear doesn’t help either. Dental veneers can help bring out the best in your smile and can help to ensure that your teeth are functioning properly as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dental veneers suitable for me?
Not everyone who wants to enhance their smile needs veneers. Some people may be able to get the smile of their dreams from just whitening and/or a short course of orthodontics, like Invisalign®. Good candidates may be those whose teeth discolour quickly, or there’s chipping and wear on the teeth, other structural damage, or decay. In such cases veneers are often the go-to option.
Why choose porcelain over composite veneers?
There is no comparison between the strength and the natural aesthetic result of porcelain veneers to that of composite veneers. In that sense, porcelain veneers are far superior in every aspect. The only aspect composite veneers have an advantage is initial cost. Yes, composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but only initially. Given that porcelain veneers last longer and require low overall maintenance, they are often more cost-effective in the long run. We recommend porcelain veneers.
Are veneers removable/reversible?
Veneers are a permanent treatment that cannot be reversed. Sometimes as part of the process, your teeth may need to be filed down slightly so the veneer can fit in seamlessly.

This is a long term commitment, and once it is done it is permanent.

How long do veneers last?
There are three types of veneers: porcelain veneers, zirconium veneers, and composite veneers. Porcelain veneers are made from porcelain; zirconium veneers are made of zirconia, which is a crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2); and composite veneers are made from engineered resin. Porcelain veneers last 10 to 15 years, while composite veneers last five to seven years. We recommend porcelain veneers.
How much of the tooth needs to be removed?
This all depends on the integrity of the tooth you’re putting a veneer on. Some cases require no reduction in the original tooth structure. However if there is decay or other major issues, some amounts of tooth will have to be removed.
How many veneers can I get?
The number of veneers you get can vary, depending on your needs. Some people may need just six in the front of their mouth, while others may need a full set of 28. Veneers can be fitted to top and bottom teeth. After detailed consultation there should be no surprises when your veneers are fitted.
How strong are veneers?
You can expect your veneers to be just as strong as regular, healthy teeth. Often veneers are stronger than your existing teeth, however veneers aren’t indestructible.

Just as with natural teeth, you should not use your teeth as tools. You should avoid opening bottles with your teeth or cracking ice cubes or nuts.

How much do veneers typically cost?
Veneers are an investment and each case is different, depending on the material used and the number of veneers you need. It’s our policy to be upfront with our pricing and payment options to help you make the decision that’s right for you. After all, no one likes surprises when it comes to price!
Will veneers make my teeth look bulky?

You can rest assured that Dr Shaun and his team are very experienced with digital smile design and veneers. With advanced technology there should be no reason for your new smile to look bulky.

Can veneers fall out?
Veneers do not generally fall out, however as with natural teeth they can chip and be damaged.
Are veneers hard to maintain?
You care for veneers just like regular teeth — with brushing, flossing, and regular cleaning from your dentist to maintain healthy gums.
